August Gardening Tips: What We’re Doing This Month
Wisteria is a vigorous climber, and if it’s not pruned regularly, it can quickly become a tangled mess. August is the perfect time to prune back the long, whippy shoots that appeared over summer.
We cut these shoots back to around 5–6 buds from the main stem. This not only keeps the plant’s size and shape in check but also channels energy into producing more flowers next year, rather than just foliage. If your wisteria didn’t flower much this year, a good summer prune could be the fix.
